Rewrite Your Thoughts for a Better Future

Is your mind stuck in the past?

Breaking out of our conditioned thinking and habits can be difficult, but it is essential for creating lasting change.

When we want to move forward in a new direction…

Our minds often look to the past for solutions based on what they already know. For example, if we once tried to start our own business and didn't achieve the success we wanted, our minds may tell us that we're not cut out for entrepreneurship and that we should stay in our "safe" job. Or, if we received a message from a parent that we weren't lovable, that deep-seated belief may be keeping us stuck in unfulfilled or unhealthy relationships. Taking a step back and getting in touch with our intuition can help us to recognize when we are living within the boundaries of what we have been taught and start making the necessary changes.

In reality, the mind can never know what is going to happen.

The mind can only project based on the past or what it already knows. The known is a memory, and living in the known is living in the prison of the past. The unknown, however, is the field of all possibilities. When we step into the unknown, we free ourselves from the past and open ourselves up to new ideas, fresh perspectives, and flashes of insight.

To make lasting changes, it is important to let go of the past and step into the unknown. Meditation and present-moment awareness are two practices that can help with this. Additionally, we should recognize that struggling and exhausting ourselves is not necessary to reach our goals. Taking breaks and stepping away from the situation can help us stay calm and open to new possibilities.

Taking a break.

Doing our best to achieve our goals can be a difficult journey, and determination and focus are essential. However, struggling can be a sign that you're expending unnecessary energy and staying stuck. When you're exhausted and stressed, you may miss out on opportunities because your attention is scattered or focused on negative results. In contrast, when you feel centred and calm, you open yourself up to creativity, inspiration, and serendipity. Taking a break can sometimes be the best way to refresh your mind, body, and spirit.

Meditation is an invaluable practice for staying present and open to a reality that is not simply a rehash of past experiences.

Through meditation, you can step out of habitual thought patterns and into a state of heightened awareness. As you meditate regularly, you naturally release old conditioning and rigid thinking. Practicing present-moment awareness throughout the day also helps to stay in the present moment.

Take five minutes each day to practice a simple meditation:

  • Find a comfortable place to sit and close your eyes, if that feels comfortable. Take a few deep breaths.

  • Notice your body and how it feels in the present moment.

  • Scan from head to toe, noticing any sensations, tightness, or tension.

  • Focus on your breath, allowing it to be natural and easy.

  • As you inhale, silently say to yourself, "I am." As you exhale, silently say to yourself, "at peace."

  • Repeat this mantra with each breath.

  • Notice any thoughts that arise, and label them as "thinking" before letting them go.

  • When your five minutes are up, notice any changes you may have felt.

  • Take one more deep breath, and slowly open your eyes.

By taking the time to practice meditation and be mindful of the present moment, you can become aware of your habitual thought patterns and free yourself from the prison of the past. This practice can create lasting change and open you up to new possibilities.

I spent much of my adult life living what I thought was a typical lifestyle.

I had a husband, a lovely home, a great job, two wonderful children, and wonderful friends - I had it all, yet felt like I had nothing. I felt guilty for wanting more. I was raised to be thankful for what I had and to not complain. I was scared that if I asked for more, I would be punished and would lose everything, so I kept living my life and found myself constantly searching for happiness. I realized I was living my life within the boundaries of what I was taught to believe.

To break out of this paradigm and create lasting change, we must first be willing to take a step back and explore our own motivations and desires. We can start by asking ourselves important questions such as "What do I want in life?", "What am I passionate about?", and "What values do I want to live by?". With the right guidance, we can create an action plan that will help us achieve our goals and live our life to its fullest potential.
